Attempted Hatteras

We had a gorgeous day out our first day on the ocean. And then after a considered decision we attempted Hatteras.  After 12 hours of rough sailing, dodging a large container ship, and then making almost no progress, we finally decided to abandon our course and head to Beaufort, NC. At 1am in the morning we performed a heave-to, aka the Old Heave Ho, we chilled and rested and then headed to Beaufort at the crack of dawn. We arrived in Beaufort in the driving rain and made it to the city dock for some amazing hot showers, beers and nachos and fries.
